In their Solidworks CAD-software they tried out several design concepts for their charge air cooler using the 3D-scan generated model.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e\u003cspan data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eThe final design concept was decided after several CFD simulations in the Solidworks Flow Simulation software. In this software they can simulate air flow and measure pressure drop and air distribution over the core. DO88 decided not to include internal air guides since several of the simulations showed they did more harm than good. The air flow is distributed perfectly over the core with their tank design without internal air guides that many claim is good. But in many cases, these causes turbulence and disruptions in the airflow.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e\u003cspan data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eThe DO88 final design resulted in a bar-and-plate core with TIG-welded aluminum cast end tanks. This offers peace of mind for any high boost tunes. DO88 managed to utilize a massive core, 85% lager than OEM and a 16% decrease in the charge air pressure drop and still maintaining a drop-in installation. Decreasing the charge pressure drop over the intercooler has several benefits such as the turbos needs to work less to achieve target boost, lower temperature, and improves throttle response. DO88 have the equipment to calculate the pressure drop in their CFD calculation software and also real-world tests in their Superflow SF-1020 flow bench. On the water coolant side, DO88 changed to a dual pass flow structure which allows the coolant to flow across the core twice before exiting the intercooler, instead of the OE single pass structure.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e\u003cspan data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eDO88 uses a high density offset cooling fin on both the air and water side. These connections are both restrictive for the airflow and is not ideal in terms of reliability with a high boost tune. The stock intercooler has rubber hoses and plastic J-pipe (intercooler outlet pipe).\u003cbr\u003eWe have redesigned the intercooler connections to conventional Ø3” (76mm) hose connections. We include reinforced silicone hoses and a 2,5” (63mm) mandrel bent aluminium J-pipe to match these connections. Our J-pipe fits together with stock charge pipe or any aftermarket charge pipe that is designed to fit together with the stock plastic J-pipe.\u003cbr\u003eAll these improvements result in better cooling, lower pressure drop and a much more reliable intercooler setup for high boost tunes.\u003cbr\u003eThe 124% increased core volume is an achievement we are proud of. It´s a remarkable difference. Perceivable, to say the least. The engine pulls better all over the revs and withstands repeated full throttle runs without building heat. The perception of an intercooler being something to upgrade only after a major engine tune is false, yet widely spread among customers and car people. During hot Swedish summer days, at repeated pulls, inspired driving or even at ordinary driving in a hotter climate area, it doesn´t take much of an effort from the engine to generate dangerously high inlet temperatures – even on a standard, non-tuned, car. The cooling capacity with an OEM-intercooler is in many cases inferior which will affect the usable power outtake. The heat has to be eliminated, or else the promised output will be decreased as you start giving gas.\u003cbr\u003eThe stock intercooler plastic air guide will need to be trimmed (see instructions) to make it possible to install our large intercooler. This is required for most aftermarket intercoolers with a large stepped-core design such as ours. When the plastic air guide is trimmed it leaves a large gap at the top of the intercooler which lets valuable ambient air flow slip past the intercooler core. We could not accept this so we designed a plastic air guide which prevents this from happening, it is fastened on top of the intercooler core (this air guide is included in the kit).\u003cbr\u003eThis intercooler comes with everything necessary for an easy installation.
